Training & Education

GPs in Training

Our practice is approved to train fully qualified doctors who wish to specialise in general practice.

Our GP registrar will have had 2-4 years of experience as a qualified hospital doctor working in various specialities.

They consult patients on their own, under the mentorship of a GP trainer. Occasionally we ask permission to video a consultation. You will always be asked in advance and are given the option not to take part, and this will not affect your care in any way. No recording will be taken without your consent and the camera will be switched off on request. These videos are used only for educational purposes with the doctor doing the consultation and are destroyed after use.

We also have Foundation Doctors working in the practice as part of their foundation training.  These will be doctors with at least 1 year of experience as a qualified doctor working in a hospital setting.  They will spend up to 4 months working in General Practice under mentorship with a GP trainer.  They will consult on their own or jointly with their GP trainer.

Medical Students

Medical students are sometimes attached to the practice as part of their training. If you do not wish a student to be present during your consultation, please inform the receptionist.

Professional Development & Protected Learning Time (PLT)

Protected learning time for GPs and Nurses in Warrington has been available for a number of years.

For many practices this is used as an opportunity to deliver staff training on the premises or peer-led training alongside other GP practices in Warrington delivered by Warrington CCG.

PLT provides an opportunity for healthcare professionals to learn about new clinical developments, updates to national guidance, and best practice whilst also sharing their own experience and knowledge with their peers.

Fundamentally PLT is about improving patient care by providing a dedicated learning time for healthcare professionals away from their busy day-to-day primary care work.

Our protected learning time usually occurs on the one Wednesday or Thursday a month when we are closed for the afternoon, but sometimes there are additional sessions in the year.  During this time the practice will be closed, however urgent GP advice can be accessed if you need it by telephoning 111 and speaking to GP Out-Of-Hours.

Upcoming Dates for Protected Learning Time:
